Quantum Hosts 2017 Design Forums for Rehab Professionals

Wednesday, November 15, 2017

EXETER, PA – Quantum Rehab® recently hosted its 2017 Design Forums for Rehab Professionals. During this series of two-day events, clinicians from across the U.S. met to share ways to create better clinical outcomes through product and service innovations.

As a culmination of clinician input throughout the year, Quantum’s Design Forums for Rehab Professionals bring together diverse, collaborative groups to advance complex rehab technology through direct clinician input. This year’s two-day forums included 42 clinicians from leading rehabilitation facilities across the country. During the forums, clinicians shared their hands-on experience with ways to improve existing mobility technology, as well as ideas for new products and services, all to create enhanced clinical outcomes for those who rely on complex rehab technology.

“We seek constant input from consumers, providers and clinicians to ensure Quantum delivers innovative, market-driven mobility technology,” shares Jay Brislin, Vice President of Quantum Rehab. “This type of intensive forum is invaluable to us. As an example, our new 4Front Power Chair, which is dedicated to high-end applications, was developed as a result of input from previous Quantum Design Forums. This year’s events were no exception, with clinicians graciously providing the most grounded, real-world input and feedback toward improving rehab technology for all.”

The Design Forums also serve as an industry event for clinicians to engage in proactive discussion. “The diversity of clinicians from across the country creates a wonderful resource for attendees to learn from each other,” adds Julie Piriano, Vice President of Clinical Education, Industry Affairs and Compliance Officer. “The collaborative knowledge that comes from the forums is invaluable for everyone. We’re privileged to have these opportunities to not just add a greater stake-holder voice to our products, but to also acknowledge the exceptional work of the clinician community.”

Pride Mobility and Quantum Rehab Host Disability Mentoring Day 2017

EXETER, PA – Pride Mobility Products® and Quantum Rehab® offered approximately 20 students with disabilities an opportunity to be mentored by career professionals in various fields at Pride and Quantum during Disability Mentoring Day (DMD) 2017 on Wed., Oct. 11, at the company’s Duryea facility.

DMD is designed to bring students with disabilities into the workplace where they can learn about various career paths. Through Pride and Quantum’s 8th Annual DMD event, participants had the opportunity to meet with professionals to learn the typical job responsibilities and the necessary knowledge and skills needed for a specific vocation. Careers in research and development, sales, technical service, and production were highlighted. By hosting the event at the Duryea facility for the first time this year, the students were able to tour the production area and see a brand-new, expanded test lab. Scott Meuser, Chairman and CEO, addressed the group and thanked them for being a part of this special day, while promising to continue to participate in future years.

Denise Truesdale, Vice President of Human Resources, was pleased to help organize the event.

“We are privileged to have the opportunity to showcase the amazing work we do at Pride and Quantum

Rehab while educating the students, teachers, and aides about the many career opportunities available to individuals with disabilities,” Truesdale said. “It was a fun-filled day that allowed us to make a difference in people’s lives.”

Many students said the highlight of their day was visiting the state-of-the-art test lab.

“I loved how the wheelchairs moved,” said Sarah Moran, a student at Pittston Area High School. “I never got to drive one before! I also was able to see one go through water in the test lab.”

DMD originated at the White House in 1999 with less than three dozen local individuals participating. Now hosted by the American Association of People with Disabilities, the nation’s largest cross-disability membership organization, DMD has evolved significantly to encompass participation in all 50 states and many countries around the world. The 4Front is equipped with independent, automotive-grade SRS (Smooth Ride Suspension) that provides unprecedented comfort and ride quality. CASE technology delivers advanced stability for smooth obstacle transition when driving from flat to uneven surfaces. The 4Front is quiet and more responsive, with unmatched driving performance. Both therapists and consumers all over the country test drove the 4Front and they agree that it drives much smoother than other front-wheel drive power chairs in the industry.

Quantum Introduces its New 4Front™ Power Chair

Monday, October 2, 2017

EXETER, PA – Quantum Rehab® is pleased to announce the launch of its 4Front™ front-wheel drive power chair, featuring SRS (Smooth Ride Suspension).

The Quantum 4Front focuses on bringing enhanced ride comfort, performance, and safety to the front-wheel drive segment.

“As we developed the 4Front, we heard from clinicians, providers, and consumers that they wanted a front-wheel drive power chair with suspension that addresses real-world needs,” explains Jay Brislin, Vice President of Quantum Rehab. “The market didn’t want just another power chair, but one that focuses on ride quality, drivability, and safety. We looked at the top suspension systems in other industries, especially automotive, and spent two years evolving what’s now SRS (Smooth Ride Suspension) on the 4Front.”

The result is that the 4Front features automotive-grade suspension components and engineering to create performance and stability, with optimized user ride comfort. At the heart of the 4Front’s SRS (Smooth Ride Suspension) are four “coil-over shocks.” Whereas most power chairs use spring-based suspensions, SRS (Smooth Ride Suspension) uses coil-over, gas-charged shocks, providing an ultra-smooth ride. The geometry in which the shocks are integrated into the power base allows independent wheel travel, with the additional effect of power base stabilization, delivering safe seat elevation up to 10” at 3.2 mph.

“We understood the necessity of medically-based absorption on the 4Front for the smoothest ride possible,” shares Jay Doherty, Director of Clinical Education. “For clients with spasticity, tone, decreased balance, or limited strength, unwanted power chair movement can be both detrimental and fatiguing. This also holds true for those using specialty controls, such as a head array. SRS (Smooth Ride Suspension) on the 4Front lessens bumps and jarring, creating among the smoothest, most stable seating environments for the user.”

As a complex rehab power chair, the 4Front carries a full range of seating and specialty drive control options, in a highly-maneuverable power base using Group 24 or Group 34 batteries for optimal range. CASE (Caster Angle Sensor Encoder) technology allows predictable handling on varied terrain, and safe seat elevation delivers up to 10” of lift at a 3.2 mph driving speed.

Where Kids Can Be Kids

“You think the only people who are people are the people who look and think like you. But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger, you’ll learn things you never knew you knew.”

The Center for Courageous Kids is a not for profit medical camping facility founded by the late Ms. Betty Turner Campbell in October of 2004 and opened for the first family weekend in February of 2008. Ms. Betty lost a beloved son following a 17-year battle with cancer. She was inspired to create a place where children living with life-threatening illnesses and their families could come free of charge and have fun, find respite, feel normal and forget about their everyday struggles. Since inception, over 25,000 medically fragile campers and their families have visited The Center for Courageous Kids from 45 different states and ten foreign countries. Her dream of building a medical camp on her Father’s 168- acre farm, in her hometown of Scottsville, KY, came true and continues to change lives of thousands of children every year.

When I first arrived at the camp a couple of years ago, I knew how special it was. Working for Quantum Rehab has allowed me to volunteer at the camp every summer, so I have established relationships with the camp faculty and staff. This makes the experience that much better. You can’t help but be happy and full of admiration when you see these incredible children who experience such intense life challenges. There are so many great opportunities for these children to experience things they might never experience otherwise, like fishing, canoeing or horseback riding. It was important for me to interact with them and show them that they can grow up to be “normal” adults.

My grandfather has taught me to always find the good in every situation, no matter how bad it may be. I carry that logic with me every day of my life. My accident was, definitely eye opening. Whenever I come across anyone who finds out about my injury, I get asked the same question. How have I been able to stay so strong, both physically and mentally throughout all of this? The thing people don’t realize is that it has never been about me, EVER. It’s ALWAYS been about the people who have believed in me and the vow I made to myself to never let them down. Being able to make a difference in people’s lives is what drives me to do what I do every day. The Center for Courageous Kids enables me to do just that! I’m so thankful to have witnessed some of the beautiful memories these children make alongside their family and friends. CCK is much more than a camp, but a place of tranquility, acceptance and just simply, a place where kids can just be kids!

Quantum To Launch 12″ iLevel with LED Fender Lights

Friday, March 31, 2017

EXETER, PA – Based on consumer demand, Quantum Rehab® is launching enhancements to its iLevel® technology, including 12” of lift and LED fender lights to further increase users’ independence.

“The feedback on iLevel has been astounding over the past two years, especially in how it exponentially increases users’ independence,” shares Megan Kutch, Director of Quantum Marketing. “As a result, we’re excited to be launching two additional enhancements.”

As of May 1, iLevel on the Q6 Edge® 2.0 will now have 12” of vertical lift, 2” taller than the previous version.

“The 12” iLevel heightx places most users within the median human standing heightx, increasing environmental access,” explains Kutch. “Allowing most users to now elevate to between 5’6” and 5’8” adds additional accessibility when participating in their activities of daily living.”

A key to the 12” iLevel enhancement is its patented Extra Stability Technology™ that mechanically stabilizes the power base when elevated, allowing walking speeds over varied terrain up to 3.5mph.

Additionally, LED headlights and tail lights integrated into the fenders will now be standard when ordered with iLevel technology on the Q6 Edge 2.0 to enhance visibility during active outdoor use.

“We’ve heard the increased functionality and usage that iLevel brings to its users, with extra stability and safety, and want to ensure that we continue to deliver enhancements and features that maximize independence,” adds Kutch.
